Bubble

Bubble is a no-code platform for building web apps and native iOS and Android apps in one visual editor, with a managed database, visual workflows, plugins and an API connector. An AI builder can generate an initial app from a plain-language description. Apps are hosted on Bubble's infrastructure and metered in workload units.

Overview

Bubble lets people design pages by drag-and-drop, define data types in a managed database and express logic as workflows that respond to user actions, without writing code. Web apps and native mobile apps are built in the same editor and share one database, user authentication and workflows; mobile apps can be submitted to the Apple App Store and Google Play. An AI agent can draft an app blueprint from a description, which is then refined in the editor.

Third-party services are reached through community plugins, Bubble's API connector, an app connector and a SQL connector. Bubble hosts the engine and database on AWS with assets served through a CDN, and manages backups and restoration. Server usage is measured in workload units (WU); each plan includes a monthly WU allotment, and additional usage can be covered by workload tiers or pay-as-you-go overages.

Plans are purchased per project rather than per user. The Free plan is intended for apps under construction (one editor, 50K WU per month, development version only); paid plans are shown with annual billing and add live deployment, custom domains, more editors, longer server logs, version control and build submissions. Enterprise adds hosting-location choice and custom limits.

Who it's for

Founders, small teams and internal builders who want to ship a web or mobile app without a traditional development stack and accept Bubble-hosted infrastructure and workload-based metering.

Key features

  • Visual drag-and-drop editor for pages and UI
  • Managed database with point-in-time backups and privacy rules
  • Visual workflows triggered by user actions and schedules (recurring workflows on paid plans)
  • Native iOS and Android apps built in the same editor as the web app, sharing data and auth
  • AI builder that generates an initial app from a plain-language description
  • API connector, app connector, SQL connector and community plugins
  • Version control with custom branches on higher plans
  • Live website hosting with custom domain on paid plans

Pros and limitations

Pros

  • Web and native mobile apps share one editor, database and authentication
  • Free plan for development with a single editor and 50K workload units per month
  • Hosting, database and backups are managed by Bubble
  • Additional workload can be added through tiers or overages rather than forced upgrades

Limitations

  • Apps run on Bubble's hosting; the manual does not describe self-hosting or code export
  • Usage is metered in workload units with monthly allotments per plan; extra usage costs more
  • Free plan has one editor, a development version only and 6 hours of server logs
  • Paid plan prices are shown with annual billing; monthly-billed amounts were not visible on the pricing page
  • Pricing is per project, so each separate app needs its own plan

Integrations

  • REST APIs via API Connector
  • SQL databases via SQL Connector
  • Community plugin marketplace
  • Apple App Store and Google Play distribution

Use cases

  • Launching an MVP web app without engineering staff
  • Building a companion mobile app that shares data with an existing Bubble web app
  • Internal tools and portals with role-based privacy rules
  • Prototyping an idea with the AI builder before refining it visually
