Retool is a low-code platform for building internal and customer-facing software on top of existing databases and APIs. It offers drag-and-drop and AI-generated web apps, native mobile apps, scheduled or triggered workflows, AI agents with human-in-the-loop controls, a managed PostgreSQL database, permissions, source control and the choice of Retool-hosted or self-hosted deployment.
Retool is used to build admin panels, dashboards, operations tools and customer portals quickly by connecting UI components to queries against databases and APIs. Apps can be assembled by drag-and-drop, generated from a prompt, or imported as React code. Retool Workflows automates jobs, alerts and ETL tasks, and Retool Agents automates tasks with AI while keeping people in the loop. Managed services (Retool Database, Email, Storage and Vectors) are available for cloud-hosted organizations.
Data sources include PostgreSQL and other databases, any REST or GraphQL API, and SaaS systems such as Salesforce. Access is governed by permissions and SSO, and changes can be tracked with source control. Teams can run Retool on Retool's cloud or self-host it; self-hosted and air-gapped deployment are tied to the Enterprise plan.
Pricing separates builders (who create and publish apps, workflows and agents) from internal users (who only use apps), with monthly or annual billing; external users are metered on the Business plan in tiers. The Free plan allows up to 5 users and excludes external users, SSO, audit logs and Git source control. Retool Email and Retool Storage are not available to self-hosted organizations.
