Overview

PostHog bundles several product tools in one platform: product analytics (trends, funnels, paths, stickiness, lifecycle and retention insights, dashboards and alerts), session replay, feature flags and experiments, surveys, error tracking, logs, external data sources, destinations and AI observability. Data is captured through SDKs for web, mobile and server languages, and the platform can also be driven through an MCP client or the API.

Pricing is per product: every product has a monthly free allowance (for example the first 1 million analytics events and 1 million feature flag requests, 5,000 session recordings, 1,500 survey responses, 100,000 exceptions and 10 GB of logs), and the pay-as-you-go plan has a $0 base price with tiered usage rates above the allowance that fall at higher volumes. Optional billing limits stop ingestion once a set spend is reached. The free plan allows 1 project with 1 year of data retention; the paid plan allows 6 projects and 7 years.

PostHog publishes a Docker Compose self-hosted deployment under the MIT license, but states self-hosting is officially unsupported, ships without tagged releases and is limited to free-plan features; all paid-plan features are cloud-only. It suits product and engineering teams that want analytics, replay and feature management from one vendor with usage-based billing.
